SMART Board — High-Performance MgO Panels for Island Construction
SMART Board is a high-performance magnesium oxide (MgO) building panel engineered for demanding coastal and island environments. Reinforced with fiberglass mesh and manufactured without chloride, SMART Board combines exceptional durability with resistance to fire, moisture, mold, rot and termites.
Unlike conventional gypsum and wood-based panels, SMART Board is designed to perform in environments where humidity, water exposure, insects and salt air can quickly damage traditional building materials. MgO systems can also provide exceptional fire performance, with comparable tested wall assemblies achieving fire-resistance ratings of up to 240 minutes.
The SMART Board family includes both SMART Wall Board and SMART Structural Board, giving architects, engineers and contractors a durable panel solution for interior, exterior and structural applications.
SMART Wall Board
is a durable, non-combustible alternative to conventional gypsum board and other interior and exterior panel products. It is designed for walls, ceilings, soffits and other applications where moisture resistance, fire performance and long-term durability are important.
Unlike standard drywall, SMART Wall Board does not rely on paper-faced gypsum or other organic materials that can deteriorate when exposed to moisture. It resists mold, rot and termites and is well suited to the humid, salt-air conditions common throughout The Bahamas and Caribbean.
Compared with traditional cement board, SMART Wall Board is less brittle and more forgiving during handling and installation, while providing excellent moisture resistance and durability. It can be cut, fastened and finished using familiar construction methods, making it a practical choice for both residential and commercial projects.

SMART Structural Board
SMART Structural Board is a high-strength MgO panel designed for demanding structural and semi-structural applications, including subfloors, decking, roof decks, exterior sheathing and other assemblies where added strength and durability are required. It can replace plywood in many wall, roof, decking and subfloor applications.
Depending on board thickness and assembly design, SMART Structural Board can be installed over framing spaced up to 24 inches on center, giving designers and contractors greater flexibility in floor, roof and wall construction. The board combines excellent moisture resistance with resistance to mold, rot, termites and fire. Unlike many wood-based structural panels, it will not swell, soften or deteriorate simply because it is exposed to humidity or intermittent moisture. Compared with conventional cement-based panels, SMART Structural Board is less brittle and better able to tolerate normal handling and building movement without cracking.
For coastal construction, this combination of strength, moisture resistance and durability makes SMART Structural Board especially well suited for projects where long service life and reduced maintenance are important.
